Garry Goodman is a registered dietitian, nutritionist, and trained chef with a master's degree in human nutrition. Author of a series of books, "Fix It with Food," many of which are BESTSELLERS. Garry received a Master of Science degree in Nutrition from Teachers College, Columbia University, and completed a dietetic internship at New York-Presbyterian Hospital in New York City. He earned his Culinary Degree from Peter Kump's New York Cooking School (now known as the Institute for Culinary Education). Garry has over five years of Wall Street nutrition-related experience and healthy food and beverage consulting experience. He is a guest speaker for the American Dietetic Association. Garry truly loves what he does, and patients' success drives him. It is his calling to ensure that food remains an enjoyable, nourishing part of the human experience.

I’ve been following the MIND diet for years and have accumulated a variety of recipes we enjoy. However, I was still quite happy to add this book to my collection. This is a really good introduction to the MIND diet. It takes the basics of both the Mediterranean and DASH diets and pares them down to specific foods that help keep your brain healthy. The author explains the science behind the diet as well as defines Alzheimer’s, dementia, and cognitive decline in a way that is easy to understand even for a non-scientist. He also goes into what your brain needs to function well. Having the nutrition data (calories, total fat, saturated fat, cholesterol, sodium, carbohydrates, fiber, sugar, and protein per serving) for recipes designed around the MIND diet is why this book stands out. This cookbook is great for anyone looking to make a pivot to healthier choices! Anyone in the family can pick a recipe out and I can just cook it up. No need to tweak it to make it healthier and no need to calculate the calorie count myself. Beyond the delicious recipes, the book did a great job of explaining the ‘why’ and science behind the MIND diet that I can now carry into making more healthy decisions! This cookbook has a lot of pictures, well-written recipes, and good for newbies to this plan. It is packed with everything we need to know about keeping our brain a healthy and sharp little computer. We don't even know what will really happen to us health-wise but isn't it better to give the body and mind a healthy head-start!  For those who are concerned about their cognitive decline as they age (we all should be), this book is for you. Following the MIND diet should be at the top of everyone's health goals. This would be a great book to gift someone who needs to shift the focus to brain health. The recipes in this book sound so good. I definitely will be making most of them. This is not a book of sterile, tasteless recipes to help one survive possible deterioration of the brain, but a celebration of culinary and sensory delight keeping one healthy. The wonderful recipes for breakfast, lunch, and dinner are sensational in their creativity and palate-delighting components. It has it all in a variety of fruits, vegetables, grains, seafood, meats, and more. The smoothies are heavenly and, obviously, nutritious. Even before preparing and consuming the book's recipes, one feels smarter just reading through what's to come to a better mind, body, and soul. I really love the simplicity and the versatility of these brain-healthy go-to's. The book is designed to be simple to follow and is a great place to start for anyone who wants this type of eating to be accessible. I’m grateful that a resource like this exists and was diligently created by a nutrition expert. Readers interested in a no-fuss approach to boosting their brain health through food will greatly benefit from it. It would make a great gift to a parent or grandparent… or anyone you want to have a healthy brain. Highly recommend.

This book has great information and recipes. The print is big and easy to read. There are even photos. But the photos are black and white. Showing how colorful these meals are would increase appeal. A missed opportunity.

When we see a book that talks about a diet improving brain function and health, we’re a little skeptical. I know I was. But after seeing a friend’s father suffer through the early stages of Alzheimer’s, I knew I wanted to find something that could help them out and after hearing about the MIND diet I knew just what to look for. I didn’t want any old MIND diet book explaining the ins and outs of what the MIND diet is. I wanted something my friend could use on a day-to-day basis to improve the overall health of her father. After doing the initial once-over​, this book really does offer a variety of really tasty, healthy recipes for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snack time. It offers relatively painless recipe options with common ingredients that can be found in your pantry. This book contains lots of healthy recipes to keep our brain functioning. Lots of good recipes to pick from. Recipes are simple to make and not only healthy but tasty. This is not only a cookbook but has lots of information to help prevent Alzheimer's and dementia. This book is a must-buy for people who already know about the MIND diet and want to change their food regimen to improve their brain health. If you’re looking for a great way to improve your diet with food that helps the brain, I highly recommend this book.

It might be a great book. I don't know. Will not download on old kindle or brand new Kindle paperwhite. And i didn't try to open it soon enough so I can't get my money back. Avoid.

This book was a great gift to give to my mother, who is increasingly concerned about the family's history of dementia. Most elderly people I know, have some form of dementia. I do not want to be one of them. As I get older I become more and more concerned with my mental state and how can help keep it as optimal as possible. This cookbook has recipes to enhance brain function and helping prevent Alzheimer's and Dementia. I want to do all I can do to stay healthy physically and mentally. These recipes are easy to make, have ingredients already in your pantry, can be made ahead of time, and are very tasty. Recipes are for breakfast, lunch, dinner, smoothies, desserts, and snacks. Prep time and cook time are provided for each recipe. Serving sizes are well explained and a number of servings needed for a healthy diet are included. What I really like about this cookbook vs. some others is that the recipes are much simpler and don't take as long to prepare. I really enjoy the science behind it all also. I highly recommend this book and was a great price, a great gift idea for someone that has memory problems and wants to improve their health.

The information shared concerning the MIND diet is similar to other books on the same issue. I can only guess, however, that the author’s parent language is NOT English, and that the book was never effectively reviewed by an English speaker. It is a shame, as the language used makes it difficultly to follow at times, taking away from the value of the actual content.
