8 Outdoors Family-friendly Vacations Under $400

8 Outdoors Family-friendly Vacations Under $400

Tags: Summer, Roll

When warm weather rolls in, the first things I think of are getting outdoors, enjoying the sunshine, and going on a summer vacation. We sorely need a vacation this year, but it will be on a tight budget because our summers also contain 3 immediate family birthdays, with 3 parties, and day trips to the lake for each, myriad extended family and friend birthdays, painting, minor house renovations and repairs, etc., etc., etc.. And it's usually the et cetera that kills our trips. It will also be on a tight schedule because the kids only get 2 months out of school here, and with the aforementioned plans and my husband's tight vacation window at work, I'm going to have to super-mom this thing. So this year, I'm starting early, researching all the possibilities for an inexpensive family-friendly vacation and I'll share what I find with you. I'll do a series of posts by type of vacation and give you costs. Of course this will vary by family depending on the number of people, your distance from the site, gas prices, equipment already owned, etc., but it will hopefully give you some ideas and an estimate of what it will cost to take your own inexpensive family vacation.

Delicious Summer Squash Casserole Recipe

Delicious Summer Squash Casserole Recipe

Summer is here and yellow squash are in high season! This dish is a great Southern classic. Don't let its looks fool you; it is delicious! The eggs and cheese form a more substantial layer in between the soft squash and crunchy crackers.

Summer Cookout: Creamy, Sweet, Southern Cole Slaw {Recipe}

Summer Cookout: Creamy, Sweet, Southern Cole Slaw {Recipe}

This recipe for a sweet and creamy Cole Slaw is about as Southern as it gets. It's excellent as a side for pork, brisket, smoked sausage-dogs, chicken, burgers, and sandwiches, or right on top of a pulled-pork BBQ sandwich, Memphis-style. It tastes very similar to the slaw of a certain three-letter chicken place, but I like my version so much better because I know exactly what's in it. ;)

Girls Learn STEM Skills with Adventurer Abby Boxes {Review}

Teaching our daughters STEM (Science, Tech, Engineering, Math) skills is so important these days as there is a marked deficit of women in STEM majors and in STEM-based careers. Adventurer Abby was designed to be a fun, relate-able role model to help take young girls through that first journey using a story-based program and engaging experiments. You can order (very affordable) boxes that your girls will be delighted to receive in the mail, and with summer vacation on it's way, it's a great way to keep the learning rolling right up to the next school year.

Get Your Summer Glow NOW! {How to Prep Your Face for Self-Tanner}

Spring is here! Although it's still a bit chilly where I am, I just can't wait to get my summer glow on. You've seen how pale I am, and being pale accentuates every one of my skin imperfections, from dark undereye circles to splotchy freckles. I wear foundation frequently throughout the winter, but when summer rolls around, I opt for a tan. Having a tan just makes me feel more confident in my bare skin (also, Southern summers are not kind to makeup!) In today's post, I'll show you how to prep your face for a flawless self-tan, show you what I use, and give you a ton of tips and tricks to get you glowing like it's already summer!
