French onion soup is a classic dish from France known as Soupe à l’Oignon Gratinée. The soup has a rich beef stock base with caramelised onions dominating, offering a sweet and salty flavour. The soup is finished off with a toasted gluten-free baguette slice and grated Emmental cheese. After the soup is briefly grilled to melt the cheese, the soup is ready to be enjoyed.

These are bite-size savoury scones full of chopped black olives and fresh rosemary. Perfect to accompany soups or casseroles, with a generous spread of lemon pepper butter. Make them fancy and serve these at your next gathering, split in half with different spreads such as olive tapenade, cream cheese with smoked salmon or a strong slice of Brie or goat's cheese. The potato flavour does not come through in these scones, as the mashed potato act as a binder and give the scones some extra fluffy texture.

Adapted from French Appetizers (Gibbs Smith 2019), by Marie Asselin. These crunchy seed crackers come from my friend and fellow blogger, Marie Asselin. Her book is devoted to the art of French entertaining, filled with both classic and contemporary appetizers and nibbles. These crunchy yet tender seed crackers are one of my favorites. Olive oil, sea salt and herbs de Provence give the crackers a lovely flavor (herbs de Provence is found in the spice aisle of most grocery stores, but if you can’t find it you could use an Italian seasonings mix or your favorite dried herb blend). The crackers are delicious with dips, such as my Creamy Pea Dip, or any soft cheeses. I especially like to serve them with marinated feta, which I make by dousing a block of feta with good quality olive oil and a smattering of fresh herbs. To make the crackers gluten-free, I use brown rice flour as Marie suggests (you can use all-purpose flour in its place).
This top-notch Creamy Sauce is perfect for everything. From pasta to snack dip, sandwich spread, artichokes’ topping to salad dressing.

It’s a sauce; it’s a spread; it’s a dip!! This sweet and smoky romesco sauce recipe is the superhero of condiments. Grilling the peppers and tomatoes imparts a delicious smoky flavor (I LOVE my Spark Grill), but you can cook them under the broiler instead (see the Tips below). This version is thickened with just almonds and pine nuts, making it naturally gluten free. Serve the sauce with this incredible Romesco Chicken, or on steak, fish or veggies. You can also toss it with pasta and gnocchi; slather it on sandwiches and burgers; or serve it as a dip with potato chips and Grilled Potatoes. For a gorgeous appetizer, spoon the sauce over grilled crostini (see the Tips below) with baby arugula and/or sliced basil and shaved Manchego cheese.

Basic cashew cheese recipe. Quick and easy to make. It's the best sandwich spread and filling for veggies, also great as a dip for veggie sticks or falafel.
This easy fig and walnut chutney is fragrant with port, cinnamon, star anise, orange zest and maple syrup. It smells just like the holidays, and it’s the perfect addition to cheese platters or cheese plates. For an easy crostini, spoon the chutney over fresh ricotta or brie on toasted baguette slices. It’s also excellent with roasted turkey or pork (as well as on turkey and pork burgers!), and it makes a killer sandwich with cheese (think gruyere, Comté, brie or Taleggio) and arugula. You’ll need cheesecloth and butcher’s twine to bundle the whole spices but if you don’t have one you could use a tea steeper or just add the spices and fish them out at the end.
This Spicy and crunchy Sonoran style chicken salad can be served in lettuce taco wraps, tortas and sandwiches or meal sized salads. I've been trying to come up with a chicken salad recipe that I really like for a long time now. but it wasn't until I shot a photograph for the Food Network Kitchens illustrating a recipe that showcased their basic steps for making chicken salad, that I figured it out. Their recipe called for something oniony, something crunchy (like celery, apple, radish, sweet pickle slices or a combo), mayo and salt and pepper. It was a really good basic guideline for me to start with This recipe is Paleo, low-carb and gluten free.
